A Creswick man has been charged - and police are interviewing two other people - over a series of car fires, after a wild pursuit through Ballarat's north involving a police helicopter.
The drama began in Creswick at 11am today [Thursday] when police tried to intercept a white Subaru.
It was later seen in Wendouree at 1.15pm.
“When the vehicle noticed that the airwing was following them, we understand they did a U-turn in Forest St,” Detective Sergeant Ross Andrews said.
“It’s then driven on the wrong side of the road for a short distance and collided with the truck.”
Police say the trio bolted from the car after the crash, into the grounds of Ballarat Grammar.
The woman was found in the schoolyard. Police believe she is the driver of the Subaru.
The two men were found a short time later in a residential area
A 31-year-old Creswick man has been charged with two counts of theft of a motor vehicle. He has been bailed to appear in court at a later date.
The second man and the woman remain in custody.
