Ballarat has been recognised as one of the most generous towns in Australia, according to crowd funding website GoFundMe.

The platform has today released its Year in Giving report for 2019, which has recognised the top ten most generous towns in Australia.

Ballarat made the cut, coming in at number six, while Wagga Wagga was named as the number one most generous town by the company.

Nicola Britton, GoFundMe’s Regional Manager in Australia, says it proves Australians are turning compassion into action.

“To witness the scale of this generosity tip into the millions this year in Australia has been inspiring,” she said.

“It proves that now, more than ever, Aussies are standing side by side to back one another in their time of need. It’s another level of mateship.”

Around Australia, more than one million donations were recorded this year, making the country the third most generous overall.

Nearby, Bendigo was the only other Victorian town to make the cut, coming in at number ten.
