If you're spring cleaning and want to get rid of a smelly mattress, now's your chance to take it to a City of Ballarat waste transfer station.
Disposing of mattresses will cost $15 each from now until Friday (November 22).
It is normally $30.
Cr Daniel Moloney says he hates seeing rubbish - including old mattresses – dumped in the bush.
“There;’s really no excuse for it,” he said.
The half-price mattress week will be followed by a City of Ballarat free green waste week, starting Saturday, to help locals with bushfire preparation.
During November, City of Ballarat Transfer Station opening hours are 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday and 8am to 4pm, Saturday and Sunday.
Green waste must be separated from other waste and loads must not exceed three cubic metres.
Residents who bring non-green waste and mixed loads will be charged at normal rates.
Fire hazard inspections will begin in the coming week.— Ballarat Council (@cityofballarat) November 16, 2019
If a property has been identified as a fire risk a Fire Prevention Notice (FPN) will be issued, which allows the owner 14 days to undertake mitigation works.
