The condition of a man pulled from a burning car wreck on the Ballan-Daylesford Rd has improved overnight.
The 41-year-old driver is now listed as serious but stable.
He was flown to the Royal Melbourne last night with critical head injuries after his 2009 Holden station wagon left the road and slammed into a tree.
Passers-by found the man unconscious, pulling him free.
The CFA got the first calls to the corner of Stonehut Lane at 7.10pm Sunday and it took Ballan volunteers about 10-minutes to bring under control
Bacchus Marsh Highway Patrol officers say the Hoppers Crossing driver was on P-plates and early investigations indicate speed may have been a factor in the crash.
