After months of speculation, the program for Fringe Benefits has been revealed by the City of Ballarat.

The 12 hour festival is set to take place on November 29, in the hours before the Spilt Milk festival commences the next day.

More than 50 different performers, artists and musicians will hit stages and venues at over 30 different locations around Ballarat, that will see the city come alive with music, dance, play and other performances.

From DJs in bakeries, dancing in the dark, and brass bands for families, Fringe Benefits looks set to offer something for everyone.

Musical trails will also see visitors and locals alike wander the streets of Ballarat in search of performances and activities, local hip-hop artist Candi Wade performing at the Hydrant Cafe, and even the University Pipe Band playing on the rooftop of a carpark.

Ballarat Mayor Cr Ben Taylor this morning revealed the first piece of art that will be installed in the CBD.

"We are incredibly honoured to be able to announce the first temporary art piece for Alfred Deakin Place, part of our recognition of the importance of this location as a shared, communal space for our entire community,” he said.

Local indigenous artist Josh Muir's work 'Roots' will be the first to be installed, which will also open the night at 5:30pm on November 29.
