Hundreds of people turned out for yesterday's local premiere of Ride Like a Girl.
The film, directed by Rachel Griffiths, follows the true story of local jockey Michelle Payne's historic Melbourne Cup win in 2015.
Only 700 tickets were available for the exclusive event, with many locals, young and old, eager to catch a glimpse of Ballarat's story on the big screen.
Both Michelle and her brother Stevie, who plays himself in the movie, attended the premiere at the Regent yesterday afternoon, where locals got to see the locally-shot film on the big screen for the first time.
The regional premiere for the film was brought to Ballarat by the City of Ballarat in partnership with Transmission Films.
The film will hit cinemas around the country on September 26.
