Police and the Hepburn Shire are investigating after a Creswick woman's two pet dogs were found mauled to death at the weekend.
She made the gruesome discovery on Saturday night, and alleges the large French Mastiff, also known as a Dogue de Bordeaux, found in her backyard was responsible for the attack on her two Jack Russells.
The Dogue de Bordeaux breed hails from France, and was bred as a hunting dog in the 12th century to help hunt pigs, boars and wolves, and today are commonly found today as a family pet and house watchdog.
It's prompted reminders for pet owners to keep their dogs secure and registered with the council. and report any vicious or savage dogs to council to prevent similar attacks from occurring in the future.
