Local jobs are in doubt as Woolworths begins a restructuring process.
Information received by Power FM today says thirteen people employed at Woolworths on Howitt Street in Wendouree have lost their management positions, and have reportedly been given the option to re-apply for lower level positions on the floor of the supermarket.
It's understood a man who has been employed at the store for 45 years would receive a 15 week payout if he opted for the redundancy, which is said to come into effect by September 30.
Woolworths is currently undergoing a wider restructuring of their company right around Australia, and say it's part of a new operating model in their stores, and that it will give staff more opportunitie to build new skills and career paths, without reducing their head count.
Management at the Howitt Street Woolworths say they are unable to comment on the reports.
At this stage it is not known if the Howitt Street store is the only store affected in Ballarat, nor is it known how the roles were determined for redundancy packages to be offered.
More to come.
