Central Goldfields students miss most school in Victoria

Year 10 students across the Central Goldfields shire are missing more school than any other pupils in Victoria.

New data shows that per student, an average of 53.2 days were missed by Year 10 students in 2017.

While across the shire, students missed more days throughout the year than the state's average, with an average of 30.8 days missed. It's close to double the state's average date of 17.2 days.

The Principal of the Maryborough Education Centre, David Sutton, says the school is working to address the issues surrounding the absences, but notes that he has seen a decrease in the number of students missing days this year.
