Uniting Ballarat is calling on both sides of politics to address the issue of housing and homelessness.
Uniting says their services are seeing an increasing number of individuals and families accessing them due to a lack of available rentals in the Ballarat area, despite having excellent records.
Annette Kelly-Egerton, the Executive Officer of Uniting Ballarat, says she wants to see a national strategy developed that will provide 500,000 social and affordable rental homes that are needed across the country.
"We need to develop and adequately fund a real plan to end homelessness in Australia. All Australians have the right to the safety and stability that housing provides."
She also notes that an increase in rent assistance funding is also required to help ease the financial burden families and individuals face due to the rising costs of housing.
