Pet owners asked to remain vigilant as fox baiting begins

Fox 1

Fox baiting has begun across Central Victoria to help combat the number of attacks on native animals and livestock.

Forest Fire Management Victoria has started to lay baits in Bung Bong, Costerfield, Wellsford, Redcastle, Mount Hoogly and Wareek State Forests.

The 1080 bait doesn't pose a risk to other species once the foxes are dead, however pet owners are asked to remain vigilant.

Owners are being asked by Forest Fire Management Victoria to ensure their dogs and other pets are confined to their property, as well as taking note of signs about baiting in areas, and to keep dogs on a leash or muzzled when walking in or near baited areas.
