With the Federal Election being called this morning, Catherine King is set to make history should she retain the seat of Ballarat.
King, who is the Shadow Health Minister, could set the record as the longest serving federal MP for the seat of Ballarat. She first won the seat back in the 2001.
The annoucement of the election today is set to start a wave of campaigning across Ballarat by locals also vying for the seat.
Liberal candidate Timothy Vo, Independent Nick Shady, and Greens candidate Karen McAloon are all expected to campaign heavily over the next five weeks, before locals take to the polls on May 18.
