A red Mazda performed a burnout and lost control at the Albert and Grant Street roundabout around 3:10pm. The car collided with a vehicle driven by an off-duty police officer, before crashing into four other parked cars and coming to a stop on Albert Street.
The off-duty police officer approached the Mazda after it stopped and was assaulted by the male passenger, who then fled the scene on foot with the female driver of the car.
The male constable sustained minor injuries, and was taken to hospital.
