The design for the new bus interchange at Ballarat Station has been unveiled.
Released by the State Government the new interchange will take buses off local streets with 12 new bus bays within the station precinct, along with pedestrian crossings, CCTV, lighting, shelters and seating.
Following community feedback, an additional pedestrian crossing has been added to improve connection to the station building, and the shelters include wind breakers to better protect passengers from weather.
The design will be used to gain heritage and planning approvals, while ensuring it complements the station's unique heritage values.
The interchange is part of a major transport program for Ballarat including $32 million for the Ballarat Station Precinct Redevelopment, new bus shelters across Ballarat, planned upgrades to Wendouree Station, and the $557 million Ballarat Line Upgrade, which aims to deliver more frequent and reliable services for Ballarat and Melbourne’s west.
Pending heritage approval, construction is due to start in September.
