In a Victorian first, Ballarat police will trial body-worn cameras
The technology is already being used in Queensland and NSW (pictured), although the Victorian design is yet to be finalised.
200 cameras will be put into use in Ballarat and the Melbourne suburb of Epping from April, ahead of an 11,000 camera rollout across the State.
New laws weree introduced in August 2017 to ensure officers can legally wear the cameras on duty.
It's poart of a $596 million Public Safety Package which will also see the establishment of a 24/7 Monitoring and Assessment Centre to allow police to respond to major incidents quickly.
