Ballarat's Steve Moneghetti has been named as Corangamite Shire's Australia Day Ambassador for a second year.

The Olympic and Commonwealth Games marathon runner and a former world record holder will make a keynote address at the Timboon Hall ahead of the presentation of the 2018 Australia Day Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year awards on January 26.

Five people will also receive Australian citizenship and following the Australia Day ceremony there will be markets, a petting zoo and music at Timboon playground from noon and a skate competition at the skate park from 2.00pm.

Steve's next role will be as Chef de Mission to the Australian team during this year's Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, which is the third time he has held the position.

He's also a batonbearer when the Queen's Baton passes through Ballarat on February 13 ahead of the Games.
