A century-old headstone which vanished from Carngham Cemetery last year has been found.

The headstone of Bridget Wyatt who died in 1859 at the age of 31 was taken between August 4 and December 15, to the disgust of the local community.

The Snake Valley District and Historical Society says the headstone was found and retrieved in immaculate condition at the Mena Park telephone exchange yesterday (January 11).

The stone will be returned to its rightful place in the near future.
