The Victorian Government has come to the aid of the Floyd family, who are searching for clues into the disappearance of Maryborough boy Terry Floyd 42 years ago.

Premier Daniel Andrews called Terry's brother Daryl on Wednesday morning promising funding to help find his sibling.

12-year-old Terry has not been seen since June 1975, and it is thought he was murdered and his body dumped down the Morning Star Mine near Avoca.

Daryl has been funding a dig of the mine, spending more than $100,000 in excavation costs.

A shoe and pieces of clothing were recently found at the site, which are believed to belong to Terry.
