Grampians Health has launched a fundraising appeal in a bid to purchase a vital bit of equipment designed to pick up hearing loss in babies.
The current machine is old and can no longer be repaired, a new state-of-the-art new-born hearing diagnostic machine would cost about $75,000.
Ballarat Base Hospital Audiologist Cambell Stevens says the upgrade is vital.
"Really, babies with hearing loss wouldn't be diagnosed as effectively, the treatments are not as good."
"I think it's a fantastic cause, it's a great bit of equipment we're looking to purchase, and it will literally change the lives of the babies," Mr Stevens said.
