Despite Ballarat's new daily Covid cases easing from a peak of around 400 a day to the low-to-mid one hundreds, pressure remains on resources at the Ballarat Base Hospital.

Speaking exclusively to Radio Ballarat, Grampian's Health Chief Health Officer Professor Matthew Hadfield says they haven't seen much change yet due to a lag.

"To be fair we are not yet seeing much of a change at the hospital, the pressure on the hospital is still there."

"Although Covid numbers are falling, we know now this is a really severe flu season, the same pressure from those two things is there, they just balance differently," Professor Hadfield said.

Ballarat added 144 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, the active case count now 720.

In nearby shires Moorabool added 36 cases with 16 in Hepburn.
