Ballarat has the second highest rate of obesity in Victoria according to recent data from the Heart Foundation.
38% of Ballarat adults are obese, a figure significantly higher that the state average of 31%.
Heart Foundation Victoria CEO Kellie-Anne Jolly says Ballarat also has a higher number of smokers than the state average.
"The average is around 13% and we've seen around 17.5% in the Ballarat region."
"Its one of those things that we are trying to encourage people to quit smoking, we know that it is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke," Ms Jolly said.
To support Ballarat's health push the Heart Foundation has launched a fundraiser and fitness scheme called https://www.mymarathon.com.au/ which is supported by former Australian cricket coach Darren Lehmann.
