New traffic lights have been switched on at the corner of Sturt and Morrison Street.
The lights will decongest traffic in the intersection and make it safer for students crossing the road.
Wendouree MP Juliana Addison says up to 70 thousand cars pass through the intersection a day.
"Between 2013 and 2018 there were 76 accidents which resulted in 12 people being injured and sadly one fatality, so this is an important upgrade to a dangerous intersection and we will reduce traffic collisions through this investment," she said.
