Landowner rejoices after council removes heritage overlay from property

A Ballarat landowner has breathed a sigh of relief following a decision from council to remove a heritage overlay on his land.

Shane Kermeen faced a two-year ordeal after council slapped a protection order on an abandoned mine shed he’d planned to build on.

After being forced to shift the placement of his house, Kermeen says the decision was welcome news.

"The shed was removed nine months ago after a windstorm, so now we'll clean the ground up and put our fence up," he said.
