A large planned burn will get underway 2 Klm south east of Scarsdale this morning, weather permitting.
Forest Fire Management Victoria say more that 220 hectares will be set alight near Tilligs Road with the burn set to continue until Tuesday.
Smoke may be visible for some days.
Meantime, it's open season on firewood and people are being urged to stock up.
Designated collection sites have been set up across the Ballarat and Grampians regions.
Regional Manager of forest and fire planning Jon Rofe says the collection season will run from now until June.
"We encourage people to collect their firewood early."
"A lot of the wood will be what we call green, so it wont be seasoned and dry yet, so the earlier the better to give it more time to dry so its more efficient in your fire place," Mr Rofe said.
