Ballarat is set to undergo its biggest sewerage upgrade in a century.
Central Highlands Water have announced the construction of a new $25 million dollar sewer pipeline.
Managing director Paul O’Donohue says the new infrastructure will last 100 years.
"Ballarat is growing quickly, we are seeing a lot of in-fill development in Ballarat so it's important we are infront of the curve and putting infrsutructure in the ground that will be there for another 10 years," he said.
The pipeline will run from Ballarat East, through the CBD, to a treatment plant in Ballarat South.
O’Donohue said the new pipeline will allow water to be treated at a higher quality bfore it is released back into the enviroment.
