Leaked report raises bushfire resource concerns

The state opposition says a leaked document shows Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) will have no capacity to deal with bush fires in regional areas this fire season.

Shadow Minister for Emergency Services Nick Wakeling says that includes the Ballarat City and Lucas stations which may be forced to lease or loan tankers from the CFA.
The report states;
“Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) have no capacity to adequately response (sic) to our bushfire risk within the FRV primary areas or adjoining CFA Districts in the regional locations.”

Also stated in the report;

“Before July 1, it was custom and practice for professional firefighters to support their local community with appropriate vehicles for bushfire response. This service is no longer available, nor is the capacity to protect these communities from fire impacting from adjoining CFA brigade areas.”

Speaking to Radio Ballarat Mr Wakeling also raised concerns of the possibility of air fire fighting resources being reduced in Ballarat with the removal of a locally based helicopter.

“Only the Liberal Nationals will stand up for Victoria’s CFA volunteers and return the CFA to being an independent, volunteer-based, autonomous fire service," Mr Wakeling said.
