Elective surgery will get back to 75% capacity at the Ballarat Base Hospital from today.

Ballarat Health Services (BHS) says the move has been made with coronavirus restrictions now eased as of 11.59pm last night.

The hospital hopes to hit 85% capacity, working in tandem with St.John's, from September 28.

While this increased capacity will include all categories of elective surgery, BHS will continue to prioritise surgery based on clinical assessment of urgency.

Ballarat Health Services CEO Dale Fraser said the organisation would continue to work in tandem with St John of God and other providers to ensure health care services are appropriately supported across the region in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The increase in capacity for elective surgery is a positive step, and we look forward to being able to provide these important services to those who have been patiently waiting,” Mr Fraser said.

Visitor restrictions remain in place.
