Bans on home visits in regional areas including Moorabool, Golden Plains, Colac/Otway, Greater Geelong, the Surf Coast and Queenscliffe have now come into effect to try stop the spread of coronavirus.
But people in those areas will still be allowed to go to restaurants, cafes and gyms.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews reportedly held crisis talks last night about introducing tougher COVID-19 restrictions in Melbourne, with a New Zealand-style lockdown discussed as an option.
Meantime, there's been reports of long queues and waits of up to an hour as Ballarat locals rush to buy materials to make their own face masks.
The wearing of face masks becomes mandatory from 11.59pm Sunday night across the state.
