We’re doing a rubbish job of looking after the Yarrowee

A group of volunteers have pulled a shameful amount of rubbish out of the Yarrowee River on Clean Up Australia Day.

Lead by Col Palmer, who’s been cleaning up the area for decades, they managed to easily fill a skip bin in just a handful of hours.

The effort was one of a number of clean-ups that occurred around Ballarat on Sunday, including not only numerous along the Yarrowee but also Rotary Centennial Park at Lucas.

Clean Up Australia Day has now become the nation’s largest community-based environmental event, held annually on the first Sunday in March.
