A Ballarat councillor says she’s frustrated that Lake Wendouree’s new $3.17 million lights are not all working properly.

A count this week showed about 18% of the 225 lights were not turning on before dawn leaving long stretches of the Steve Moneghetti track in darkness.

In a statement the City of Ballarat says an engineer is addressing a tripping issue with some safety switches and that the project is currently in a defect rectification period.

“Yeah, absolutely I find it frustrating,” Cr Amy Johnson said.

“I find it frustrating also that people seem to think the councillors are the ones out there installing the lights and causing the issues with them.”

“I think people often get confused about the role of councillors at the City of Ballarat and assume that we are actually out there on the tools,” Cr. Johnson said.

The newsroom has been assured that there are no extra costs to ratepayers to fix the broken lights.
