A Ballarat councillor is pushing the State Government to remove an old-fashioned legal mechanism that is tying up a key piece of land.
The old sale yard site is under a Kings Caveat, meaning it can only be used as a sale yard again.
Ballarat’s new sale yard complex is now operating near Miners Rest.

Cr. Daniel Moloney says the caveat needs to go.
“You’d need to lift this weird legal restriction that we don’t think exists anywhere else in Australia, which has to be done through an act in parliament,” he said.
“Ultimately, that’s still state land and we’d love to see it eventually developed into a housing solution.”
