City of Ballarat council officers are recommending rate payers money be used for two international trips this year with a combined cost of more than $50,000.
They say three representatives should be flown to the 20th anniversary celebrations of the friendship agreement with Timor Leste at a cost of $12,440, as well as five people to the 35th anniversary of the sister-city relationship with Inagawa in Japan for approximately $38,000.
Twenty community members have indicated interest to join the delegation and will pay their own way including accommodation and other associated costs.
Councillors will vote on the travel at Wednesday night’s council meeting.
