National Tertiary Education Union members at Federation University plan to take their displeasure to the streets of central Ballarat on Saturday.
They’ll be protesting a 2.55% wage rise (per annum) that’s been offered, an amount they say is below that offered by other universities.
“All we are asking for is a fair wage increase and decent conditions,” said Dr Mathew Abbott, President of the NTEU Branch at Fed Uni.
“Our counter-proposal is for a 3.5% increase, which is quite conservative given inflation is running at about double that.”
The gathering out front of the Post Office Gallery from noon comes as thousands of visitors are expected to descend on the city for the final weekend of the Heritage Festival.
