Victorian Goldfields Medieval Faire
Sat 23 Mar 2019 to Sun 24 Mar 2019
The fourth annual Victorian Goldfields Medieval Faire is prepared for March 2019.
This year’s recipient charity is VICSES Ballarat Unit (SES)
This coming festival will have emphasis on education, where the community will engage with a large variety of living history encampments and working exhibits. On display will be examples of home life, cooking, weaving, medicinal and healing, forging, metal work, and garment construction.
Since our first event, the support for our next faire has become evident from the wider medieval community, with reenactor participation having grown since 2015. This means we will have more working encampments based on historical evidence from Viking, Middle Ages, Varangian, and Dark Ages groups.
We will be joined by LARP groups and members of Ballarat Swordcraft. We will have 4 jousts per day, displays of mounted archery, and full metal contact demonstrations by Team Kraken and Western Wolves.
On Saturday we will have a birds of prey demonstration from Leigh Valley Hawk and Owl Sanctuary, and on Sunday we have the Australasian Guild of Town Criers Competition.
We are thrilled The Frojel (‘Frayell”) Viking Museum Collection will be on exhibition again at the Faire.
This is the single largest private collection of Viking and Middle Ages historical artefacts in the Southern Hemisphere, encompassing 26 glass cases of archaeology, with jewellery, weapon pieces, traders tools, household items and crucibles in the collection. Any history buff, students, and fans of Vikings, Game of Thrones, or history in general will find this compelling.
Previous recipient charities are Uniting Care Ballarat Sleepless Project, Children’s Cancer Support and Ballarat Legacy.
