We caught up with the amazing Nina Valentine, an Alfredton woman who we believe could be oldest surviving announcer to have worked at 3BA.
Nina's first on-air shift dates back to 1945, just 15 years after the station began and less than a decade after it moved to Lydiard St Nth.
The details of how she got into radio are a bit hazy, but she believes it could have been through a speaking competition she won at the Royal South Street eisteddfod
On top of working in radio, Nina has also written articles for publications including The Australian Womans Weekly and The Courier. You can still read her regular articles in The Miner.
Son James is a journalist who also works in radio. He has also hosted TV programs, written books and was a musician in Aussie rock band The Models.
