A new council program is encouraging Ballarat residents to transition their homes off gas.

Locals will now be able to claim rebates on the purchase of solar panels, home batteries, induction cook tops, hot water heat pumps and more.

A Rewiring Australia study found the average gas and petrol home costs over $5,500 to run per year, whilst an average electrified home costs only $559 to run per year.

In a statement, Mayor of Ballarat, Tracey Hargreaves, said by acting now, residents can reduce their bills as soon as this coming winter.

To be eligible, any purchases or installations will have needed to be made after March 16th, with rebates available until September 16th or until the allocation is exhausted.

More information is available at the City of Ballarat’s website.
